Can you believe that you are already five years old??? That is a whole hand of numbers!!! It seems like yesterday that you were waddling around in a diaper with your fluffy red hair sticking up.
Do you know how very special you are? Your daddy and I hoped and prayed for you for what seemed like forever. Before you were born, I was nervous. I was scared that I wouldn’t be as good of a mommy to you as I had been to your brother. Dr. Bailey told us that you were supposed to be born on August 3. I asked her if you could come early so that you could be the only Caney boy born in July and that would make you special.
When you finally got here, I knew from the very minute I saw you that you were different. With your long dark red hair and your skinny little fingers always folded together, you looked like a tiny little man. You were so so beautiful! All mommy wanted to do was snuggle you.
When you came home from the hospital, you cried a lot. But that’s okay, because that meant mommy just got to hold you more. You only wanted to sleep on your tummy. You only wanted to drink your milk a certain way. You only liked your polka dot blankie. So many things made you very unique and special.
Today, you are not a little baby. You are a big five year old boy!! Mommy is so very proud of you. I love your big brown eyes and how they sparkle when you smile. I love the freckles that grow new on your nose every day. I love how you love and look up to your big brother. I love that you are so very smart. You use words bigger than you! I love that you remind me so much of me as a child, full of life, joy, excitement, and eager to learn. I love that you are funny, and that you don’t even always know it. I love your raspy voice. When you say “I love you, mom” it melts my heart. I love that you are determined and want to do your best at all times. I love that you are independent, you do things your own way. I love that you want things to be perfect all the time. I love that you throw a ball with your left hand, but do everything else with your right. I love that you dream big dreams. I love that you are always on guard and ready to battle the bad guys. You are so brave and full of courage. I love it when you sing “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” by 1D to me. I love that you know stories from the Bible and can retell them perfectly. I love that you know your Creator and the reason that He made you.
I love who you are, Lincoln Anderson Caney. From the top of your fuzzy red hair to the tips of your stubby chubby toes. You make my heart so happy. I’d be lost without you. Thank you for being you.
